Why Tennessee Titans rookie Bishop Fitzgerald is a player to watch

With the Tennessee Titans off this week with a well-deserved break ahead of their final week of offseason team activities (OTAs) and mandatory minicamp, it has been a rather quiet time around the facility.

Although there was some news on Wednesday morning when the organization announced that the next two OTA sessions on June 8-9 will be open to the media for observation, there will not be any interview availabilities. This will be another chance to see how the new-look Titans are coming along, and pay attention to some of the interesting position battles taking place.

It will also be a great time to watch some of the undrafted rookie free agents to see if they have a chance to work their way onto the roster. Josh Edwards of CBS Sports believes that USC safety Bishop Fitzgerald is one to keep an eye on.

Tennessee Titans: S Bishop Fitzgerald, USC

Illinois wide receiver Hank Beatty received the largest practical guarantee ($272,500), but the deck is stacked against him to make the final roster at this moment. The Titans employ Calvin Ridley, Wan'Dale Robinson, Carnell Tate, Chimere Dike and Elic Ayomanor.

My personal viewing experience of Fitzgerald was relatively volatile from the beginning of the season to the end. He was initially a favorite among the safety prospects, but his eyes linger in the backfield, which leaves him vulnerable.

Cornerback was a massive need for Tennessee. They signed Alontae Taylor, Cor'Dale Flott and Joshua Williams in free agency. Houston cornerback Latrell McCutchin and Tennessee cornerback Jalen McMurray should not be overlooked in a bid to make the roster, though.

From his signing, many outside the organization have zeroed in on Fitzgerald as a player to watch after he slipped out of the draft and landed in Nashville. The Titans have reworked their secondary, but have done little at safety outside of signing former New York Jets safety Tony Adams to a one-year deal.

With Amani Hooker, Kevin Winston Jr., and Adams likely entrenched, there will be a battle for a depth piece in training camp, and Fitzgerald has a great chance at landing a roster spot with a solid camp; opening some eyes during OTAs could help his chances.
