The Boston Red Sox might not be having the best season overall, but thanks to the shaky American League postseason field, it's entirely possible the 27-35 Red Sox go on a run and make the postseason.

But this team does need to add a bit of help to the roster this summer by the deadline if they seriously want to contend. Looking at their options, it's clear that a right-handed-hitting infielder would be the best option possible.

According to The Athletic's Jen McCaffrey, the Red Sox, in pursuit of such a right-handed slugger, are reportedly shopping .713 OPS veteran catcher Connor Wong in trade talks this summer already.

"With three catchers on the big-league roster - Carlos Narvaez, Connor Wong and Mickey Gasper - Boston's surplus is drawing interest," McCaffrey writes. "The Red Sox are shopping Wong in particular, according to a league source."

Even though the Red Sox might not appear to be legitimate contenders right now, they're still in the hunt and could make a move or two to improve their postseason odds.

Trading Wong, with three catchers on the big league roster, would make some sense. The 30-year-old veteran is a free agent after the 2028 season and is having a solid year thus far.

In 82 plate appearances, Wong has posted 0.8 bWAR with 19 hits, 9 runs scored, eight doubles, 10 RBIs, one stolen base, a .264 batting average, and a .713 OPS.

While he's not putting up All-Star caliber numbers or anything close to that, he's more than good enough for some catcher-needy team to acquire and take a chance on.

He's under club control for the next two and a half years, isn't too old, and is playing well for the Red Sox right now. There's sure to be a team or two to have interest.

Craig Breslow and company are exploring trades with Wong, and might be looking to include other assets in the deal to land a solid right-handed hitter they've been looking for.

Wong is on the trade block right now, and Red Sox fans should keep an eye out for any rumors that come up about his future, as other teams are showing interest in the catcher position this summer in the trade market.
