Harry Brook reclaims ICC Test No. 1 ranking after Lord's half-century against New Zealand

Harry Brook is the world's best Test batter again as the England right-hander has returned to the summit of the ICC Men's Test Rankings following his first-innings knock of 56 during England's 115-run victory over New Zealand at Lord's.

Brook first reached the top of these rankings in December 2024 and has now reclaimed the position.

His half-century was one of only two innings of 50 or more across the entire Test match, and that was more than enough to edge him past Joe Root at the top. Root had a difficult match by his own high standards, contributing just one run in the first innings and eight in the second. He drops to third in the latest rankings.

Travis Head of Australia has moved up to second, sitting between the two England stalwarts ahead of the second Test between England and New Zealand at The Oval, which begins on June 17.

Shubman Gill breaks into the Top 10

Shubman Gill scored a century during India's one-off Test against Afghanistan and, thanks to that performance, he has stepped up two places in the ladder and is currently ranked eighth.

His compatriot, Yashasvi Jaiswal, got dismissed cheaply in the same Test match at Mullanpur and has slipped a place to the ninth position.

The Lord's Test produced a few other shifts as well. Ben Duckett climbed three places to reach 15th, while Jamie Smith moved up five spots to joint 23rd.

New Zealand's Glenn Phillips was the biggest mover from that match, jumping 15 places to reach 40th in the rankings.
