The Chicago Bulls had another disappointing season in 2025-26. At least this time, though, the Bulls were actually somewhat rewarded in the draft lottery.

The Bulls currently have the No. 4 pick in the draft, which means they'll be in position to land a talent like Caleb Wilson, Keaton Wagler, or Darius Acuff Jr. The Bulls need to hit on this pick if they want to get out of the basement, but what if they end up having other plans?

Bleacher Report's Grant Hughes recently identified some blockbuster Ja Morant trade packages, and Hughes thinks the Bulls could offer a solid return. Hughes' proposal looks like this:

Bulls Acquire: Ja Morant, No. 3 pick

Grizzlies Acquire: Patrick Williams, Jalen Smith, Rob Dillingham, No. 4 pick

Regarding this potential deal, Hughes offered the following analysis:

Morant might not interest the Bulls at all, as they're just now beginning a proper rebuild. At the same time, maybe Chicago views the draft differently and believes there's a huge gap between No. 3 and No. 4. In that hypothetical, it's not so hard to imagine the Bulls taking on Morant and all his associated risk, particularly if it also gets them out of the Williams business.

So, in Hughes' proposal, the Bulls get off of Patrick Williams' horrendous deal, and also move Jalen Smith, Rob Dillingham, and the No. 4 pick for Morant and the No. 3 pick. This would give the Bulls a troubled but talented point guard and a coveted top-three pick for this loaded class.

Would Bulls trade for Morant?

The Bulls definitely aren't the first team you'd identify as a fit for Morant. The Bulls are finally fully rebuilding, and Josh Giddey and Morant seem like an odd fit together.

However, if this were the exact proposal, the Bulls couldn't say yes any faster. I have no clue why the Grizzlies would do this deal as constructed. They move off their franchise player AND give up the chance to land Cameron Boozer for the No. 4 pick, a horrible contract, and two role players?

This is a fantastic deal for the Bulls and would be considered a fleece even if Morant never returns to form. The Bulls would definitely love to move up to No. 3 to land Boozer, especially if all it costs is a few role players.

Sure, RIGHT NOW, Morant has a bad contract. However, he could play like his old self in a new environment. And like I said, even if Morant doesn't play better, who cares? You get to land an elite talent in the draft for basically nothing.
