Arizona State's Landon Hairston wins national baseball honor

National accolades continue to roll in for Arizona State outfielder Landon Hairston.

Hairston was named Division I National Player of the Year by Just Baseball. That was announced on June 10. Hairston is also a finalist for two other national awards, which will be announced later this month.

Hairston led the nation in slugging percentage (.860) and was second in total bases (202). He was third in runs scored (82), fifth in RBI (81), fifth in home runs (28), and seventh in hits (94).

He was named Big 12 Player of the Year last month, in leading the Sun Devils to a third-place finish. His 28 home runs broke the school's single-season record.

Just Baseball's other honors went to left-hander Mason Edwards of USC (Pitcher of the Year), outfielder Anthony Pack of Texas (Freshman of the Year), and James Ramsey of Georgia Tech (Coach of the Year).

On June 10, Hairston was also named one of three finalists for the 48th Golden Spikes Award, which will be presented on Monday, June 29, on MLB Network at 7:30 p.m. ET. The other two are UCLA junior shortstop Roch Cholowsky, a Hamilton High graduate, and Georgia catcher Daniel Jackson.

Hairston is also a finalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, sponsored by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and presented to the college baseball player of the year. It will be unveiled on June 12.
