Manchester United will be sending another youngster to the 2026 FIFA World Cup this summer, and it’s a bit of a surprise selection. Tyler Fletcher, who made his Scotland debut on Saturday in a pre-tournament friendly, has made the cut for the final World Cup squad after replacing the injured Billy Gilmour.
Fletcher was first called to the squad by Steve Clarke last week after just 17 minutes of action in two substitute appearances for the Reds this season. Fletcher was then thrust into action with an unfortunate injury to Gilmour in a friendly against Curacao, but he didn’t look out of place playing with the first team.

The 19-year-old has been with the Scotland setup since his days with the U16 side. He made 25 appearances for Scotland at the youth level before his call-up last week.
Fletcher played mostly for the Manchester United youth side this season, helping the Reds reach the FA Youth Cup Final and finish as finalists in the Premier League 2 division for youth teams. He plays under his father, youth manager Darren Fletcher, and alongside his twin brother, Jack.
Tyler made his senior debut for United against Tottenham at Old Trafford in February, given his first involvement by his father’s former teammate, Michael Carrick. He made another appearance off the bench for United on the final day of the Premier League season, subbing on for the final 15 minutes of a 3-0 win at Brighton & Hove Albion.
