The five favourites to sign Marcus Rashford this summer

Marcus Rashford’s future is up in the air with Barcelona undecided on a permanent deal for last season’s loanee.

The club’s capture of England teammate Anthony Gordon has put a big question mark over Rashford’s future, despite the value of a £26m permanent clause in his loan from Manchester United.

We’ve looked at the favourites to be Rashford’s club when the transfer window closes on September 1st.

Aston Villa, Bayern Munich – (8/1)

Aston Villa and Bayern Munich are both priced as outsiders to sign Rashford. The 28-year-old spent six months on loan at Aston Villa during the 2024/25 campaign and impressed under Unai Emery. Villa have secured Champions League qualification once again this season and are reportedly open to re-signing the England forward.

Bayern Munich were beaten to the signing of Anthony Gordon by Barcelona, and have been tentatively linked. However, the German champions have pivoted to Ismael Saibari with talks ongoing with PSV Eindhoven.

Newcastle United (15/2)

Could Newcastle United replace Anthony Gordon with Rashford? The Magpies cashed in on Gordon after a £69m offer from Spain, with a big-name sale required to fund their summer transfer business.

Rashford would represent a fine replacement for Gordon, offering similar explosive speed from the left flank.

Tottenham Hotspur (5/1)

Tottenham Hotspur are wasting no time in attempting to strengthen their squad under Roberto De Zerbi. The North Londoners have had an opening offer turned down for Jan Paul van Hecke, while agreements have been reached for free agents Marcos Senesi and Andy Robertson.

Attention could soon turn to a frontline that struggled last season. In the absences of Mohammed Kudus, James Maddison, and Dejan Kulusevski through injuries, Spurs lacked creativity and firepower. With Xavi Simons now facing a long spell out with an ACL issue, another attacking addition is required.

Barcelona (11/4)

Barcelona have not ruled out re-signing Rashford permanently, despite hesitation so far. The capture of Gordon is the first of what is anticipated to be multiple forward additions, with the Spanish champions chasing a deal for Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez.

A permanent deal for Rashford could hinge on whether finances are available after other priorities.

Manchester United (2/1)

Rashford’s most likely destination when the transfer window closes is his current club, Manchester United. Though a return to the group looked impossible after exiting under Ruben Amorim, the appointment of Michael Carrick could change the situation.

United are understood to want a left-sided forward this summer, and Rashford is a readily available option to call upon. Things turned sour before his exit, but a reconciliation is possible for the boyhood supporter.
