Steelers sign former first-round LB to one-year deal

Another defender has found his way to the Steel City, as the Pittsburgh Steelers have signed a veteran linebacker to a one-year deal.

On Thursday, the Steelers announced the signing of former Washington Commanders linebacker Jamin Davis, along with ex-Green Bay Packers tight end Robert Tonyan.

Davis, who was selected by the Commanders with the 19th overall pick in the first round of the 2021 NFL Draft, was a multi-year starter to begin his career.

From 2021 to 2023, Davis appeared in 45 games, including 36 starts, and recorded 269 combined tackles, 20 tackles for loss, 10 quarterback hits, and seven sacks.

After being released by the Commanders in October 2024, Davis spent one month on the Green Bay Packers practice squad before being picked up by the Minnesota Vikings.

After a brief offseason stint with the New York Jets, Davis signed with the Las Vegas Raiders' practice squad. He also signed a reserve/future contract with the Raiders in January 2026 but was released in April.

The Steelers represent Davis' latest shot at becoming an NFL starter once again, but he faces an uphill battle to make the final roster when looking at Pittsburgh's already loaded linebacker room, featuring Pro Bowler Patrick Queen, Cole Holcomb, Malik Harrison, and Carson Bruener.
