Russian Andreeva sweeps Ukrainian Kostyuk to reach French Open final

June 4 (UPI) -- Russian Mirra Andreeva required just 76 minutes to sweep semifinal foe Marta Kostyuk on Thursday and clinch a ticket to the 2026 French Open finale.

Andreeva, ranked No. 8, broke the Ukrainian's serve five times and totaled 22 unforced errors, compared to Kostyuk's 34, in the 6-1, 6-3 triumph in Paris. Kostyuk, ranked No. 15, converted just 1 of 5 break point chances.

"Obviously, [Kostyuk] has had an amazing season," Andreeva said. "Until this match, she has not lost a match on clay. She is an amazing player and a very tough opponent."

Andreeva will meet fellow Russian Diana Shnaider (No. 23) or No. 114 Maja Chwalinska of Poland in the women's singles final Saturday at Roland Garros. The men's semifinals will be Friday in Paris.

Neither Andreeva, Shnaider nor Chwalinska had advanced past the quarterfinals of a Grand Slam before the 2026 French Open.

No. 3 Alexander Zverev of Germany will meet No. 27 Jakub Mensik of Czechia in the first semifinal. No. 14 Flavio Cobolli will take on fellow Italian Matteo Arnaldi (No. 104) in the second semifinal.

The winners will battle in the men's final Sunday at Roland Garros.
