On Thursday, NFL Network insider Ian Rapoport went on the Pat McAfee show and gave a somewhat shocking update on the Pittsburgh Steelers and their wild linebacker situation. According to Rapoport, T.J. Watt is not going to be traded despite the team just signing backup edge Nick Herbig to a four-year, $100 million contract this week.
And while he sounded less confident, he gave the impression that Alex Highsmith, the third of the high-paid trio wouldn't be on the move either. This means the Steelers will go into the season with three outside linebackers accounting for $83 million of the salary cap. According to Over the Cap, the Steelers' cap for its Top 51 salaries is $304.25 million.
Assuming this doesn't change, the Steelers now must figure out how to get all three players on the field together to get their money's worth on these three massive contracts.
