Lamar Jackson embraces tough coaching from Declan Doyle

If there was any question about how Lamar Jackson would respond to being coached hard entering his ninth NFL season, the Ravens quarterback answered it with a smile.

Throughout the offseason, one recurring theme surrounding Baltimore's new coaching staff has been accountability. Whether it's Jesse Minter stressing discipline, players being pulled for pre-snap mistakes, or coaches demanding attention to detail, the message has been consistent across the building. For Jackson, that standard starts with offensive coordinator Declan Doyle.

Leading up to one of the funniest moments of minicamp, Jackson explained why he enjoys working with Doyle despite the coordinator's demanding approach.

"I love that coaching. I'm a coachable player."

Jackson believes the relationship works because communication goes both ways.

"Sometimes Declan Doyle sees things that I don't see, and sometimes I see things that he might not have thought of, and it's great to piggyback off each other."

That dynamic was on full display during a recent practice when Jackson made a mistake on a play he was supposed to execute differently.

Recounting the exchange, Jackson laughed as he told reporters exactly what happened.

"Declan Doyle was like, 'Lamar, what the F are you doing?' I was like, 'Damn, that's on me.'"

While the story generated laughs, Jackson said there was no issue with the coaching.

"He was just being a coach — nothing more, nothing less."

For a two-time MVP, that willingness to accept coaching speaks volumes. Jackson isn't approaching the season like a veteran who has seen it all. Instead, he's embracing the challenge of learning a completely new offense and welcomes a coordinator who refuses to let details slide.

If the Ravens are going to reach the explosive potential Jackson has talked about throughout the offseason, it will likely start with the kind of accountability he and Doyle are building together now.
