Incoming Real Madrid head coach José Mourinho has set his sights on the signature of West Ham United star Mateus Fernandes.
Midfielder Fernandes is for his part fresh off a stellar individual campaign in the Premier League, giving rise to three goals and four assists across 36 appearances in England’s top-flight.

Such exploits did not prove enough to stave off relegation for the Hammers, however, now facing up to a season back in The Championship in 2026/27.
Fernandes, still just 21, is therefore expected to be on the move before the summer is out.
And as alluded to above, adding his name to the list of interested parties over recent days has been fellow countryman José Mourinho.
As per a report from Diario AS, amid an ongoing search for reinforcements to the engine room setup at Real Madrid:
‘Mourinho has drawn up a list of suggestions, and on it is the name of Mateus Fernandes. Mourinho wants him, and Real Madrid are already making moves to please the manager.’
It is also noted that both Arsenal and Liverpool are in the hunt for the West Ham standout.
