Jamal Musiala relieved to score in second full match since his return from injury

On the bright side, Jamal Musiala has scored in back-to-back games for Germany. Unfortunately, there was a gap of 434 days to separate those two matches. That’s right, Musiala’s last appearance for his national team was in the second leg of last year’s UEFA Nations League quarterfinal stage when Germany held off Italy’s last surge to move into the semifinals.

After suffering the devastating leg injury against Paris Saint-Germain in last summer’s FIFA Club World Cup, Musiala ferociously attacked his rehabilitation to return six months later. However, he missed all of World Cup qualifying and was solely focused on just making the roster.

After Germany’s easy 4-0 win over Finland, Musiala took some time to reflect on the team and his journey.

“We haven’t had many training sessions, but we managed to implement what we wanted into the game and created many chances,” said Musiala (via @iMiaSanMia). “I hope everyone enjoyed it. It feels good to play 90 minutes; I haven’t scored in a while, so I’m taking a good feeling into the next games. On a personal level, I feel good. I think the 90 minutes were beneficial for me.”

Musiala failed to record a goal or assist in his last six matches with Bayern Munich. It was important for his confidence end that streak ahead of the big tournament.

Musiala has only played two full matches since January. Coincidentally, he also scored in that 4-1 win over Borussia Mönchengladbach.
