With uncertainty surrounding Josh Jacobs following his recent arrest, the Green Bay Packers could find themselves evaluating their options at the top of the running back depth chart. In that scenario, MarShawn Lloyd is looking to make his case as a potential starter and earn a larger role in the offense.
Lloyd’s time with the Packers has been heavily impacted by injuries, a setback that has slowed his early momentum in Green Bay. That background has reportedly fueled his mindset heading into the 2026 season, with Dominique Yates of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel noting that he is approaching the year with added motivation and something to prove.
“I’m excited to prove the ones that are excited right and the ones that are not excited, I’m going to prove them wrong,” the Packers backup running back remarked.

Lloyd was selected by the Packers in the third round of the 2024 NFL Draft, but his early NFL career has been largely stalled. As a rookie, he appeared in just one game, finishing with six carries for 15 yards. He then missed the entire 2025 season while dealing with a series of soft tissue injuries that kept him off the field for an extended stretch.

The Packers have indicated they will not pursue a running back trade while Josh Jacobs’ legal situation remains unresolved, which shifts more attention onto Lloyd to prove he can take on an expanded role. Matt LaFleur and Brian Gutekunst showed belief in his potential when they selected him in the third round, and his performance throughout the offseason program will help determine whether that evaluation holds up three years later.

For the 25-year-old Lloyd, the priority begins with availability. If he can avoid further injuries and remain on the field, he will have a real chance to establish himself and earn a consistent role in Green Bay’s offense.
