Former New York Giants quarterback Russell Wilson announced Wednesday that he’s hanging up his pads.
Wilson is ending a decorated playing career and stepping into broadcasting, joining the CBS pregame show “NFL Today as an analyst.
“As I enter this next chapter with CBS Sports and ‘The NFL Today,’ I’m so blessed to continue doing what I love most — being around the greatest game in the world,”
Once deemed “too short” to be an NFL quarterback, Wilson was drafted by the Seattle Seahawks out of Wisconsin in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft. Despite being the sixth quarterback selected that year, he quickly proved the doubters wrong and beat out newly-signed free agent Matt Flynn to be the Seahawks Day 1 starter as a rookie.

Wilson would go on to be the Pepsi NFL Rookie of The Year, a Super Bowl champion (2013), Walter Payton Man of The Year (2020), voted to the Pro Bowl 10 times, named an All-Pro, win a Super Bowl, and lead the NFL in both passer rating (2015) and touchdowns (2017).
The Giants signed Wilson as a veteran bridge quarterback in 2025 and he started the first three games of the season. He had one of the finest games of his career against the Dallas Cowboys in Week 2, completing 73.2% of his passes for 450 yards (11.0 yards per attempt), and 3 touchdowns.
We found out after the season that Wilson played the game on a torn hamstring suffered in practice that he hid from the team.
Wilson was benched in favor of rookie Jaxson Dart in Week 4, but remained a positive locker room presence who did what he could to help the team. That remained true even when he was demoted to QB3 in favor of Jameis Winston after Brian Daboll was fired mid-season.

Both Wilson and Jameis Winston tried their hands at broadcasting during the Giants’ bye week last year. Both men acquitted themselves well as rookie broadcasters while their team was on a bye week.
Once a Giant, always a Giant.
