Dom Tiberi stepping away from full-time role at 10TV after 45 years

Longtime Columbus sports broadcaster Dom Tiberi is stepping away from his full-time role at 10TV WBNS after 45 years with the station.

Tiberi announced the decision in a June 9 story on 10TV, where he reflected on a career spent covering some of central Ohio's biggest sports moments and personalities.

The veteran sportscaster said he is not fully retiring and will continue leading 10TV's Ohio State football coverage when the season begins this fall. He also plans to continue working on Ohio State coaches shows and partnering with the station on Maria's Message, an initiative that educates teens about the dangers of distracted driving.

Tiberi said he is looking forward to spending more time with his wife, Terri, and their four grandchildren.

"After 45 years, the time is right," Tiberi wrote in the 10TV announcement.

Tiberi joined WBNS as an intern in 1981 and went on to become one of the most recognizable voices in central Ohio sports.

Over the decades, he covered three Ohio State football national championships, major moments in Columbus sports history and the arrivals of the Columbus Crew and Columbus Blue Jackets. He also interviewed some of the biggest names in sports, including Woody Hayes, Earle Bruce and John Cooper.

Beyond sports, Tiberi became known for his advocacy work through Maria's Message, which he and his family launched after the death of his daughter, Maria, in a 2013 traffic crash. The program has reached thousands of students through school presentations, defensive driving courses and driving simulator programs focused on distracted driving prevention.

Tiberi also announced this change in a Facebook post with the caption, "Hi all, I am stepping back a bit.. but I will still be hanging around covering Ohio State Football, Basketball and always Maria’s Message… Thank you for all your years of support. You all are family to me."
