Clemson baseball’s No. 1 reliever the latest to enter the transfer portal

Clemson baseball’s bullpen will have another hole to fill heading into next season.

According to multiple reports, right-handed pitcher Hayden Simmerson is entering the transfer portal after spending one season with the Tigers. Simmerson quickly carved out an important role in Clemson’s pitching staff and became one of the team’s most reliable late-inning options during the 2026 campaign.

The former Catawba transfer led Clemson with four saves and appeared in 19 games, the second-highest total among Tiger pitchers. He finished the season with a 3.62 ERA and held opposing hitters to a .158 batting average. Simmerson also showcased strong command throughout the year, striking out 46 batters while issuing only 11 walks.

Before arriving at Clemson, Simmerson spent two seasons at Division II Catawba, where he developed into one of the top relievers at that level. Across 126.2 innings, he recorded 23 saves and totaled 146 strikeouts against 56 walks. The Salisbury, North Carolina native is expected to have one season of eligibility remaining as he searches for his next destination.

Simmerson becomes the latest Clemson pitcher to reportedly enter the transfer portal. He joins left-handers Noah Samol and Talan Bell, along with right-hander Peyton Miller, as the Tigers continue to navigate offseason roster changes on the mound.
