4-star receiver among flurry of Purdue football recruiting commitments

WEST LAFAYETTE — It's been a busy, but beneficial week for the Purdue football staff.

Over the last week, the Boilermakers have added seven players to their 2027 recruiting class, including four-star receiver Trenton Yancey and three-star offensive lineman Patrick O'Brien on Tuesday, June 9.

Yancey, a from Duncanville, Texas, is the second receiver commit in 24 hours after Eron Mallard from Georgia announced his commitment Monday.

According to MaxPreps, Yancey had 54 receptions for 780 yards and 9 touchdowns for Duncanville High last season and averaged 12.5 yards per on 31 carries, scoring another 10 TDs on the ground. Yancey had at least 40 scholarship offers, mostly from Power Four programs.

O'Brien plays at powerhouse Moeller High in Cincinnati. The 6-foot-6 offensive tackle had 14 Power 4 offers, according to 247Sports.

In addition to O'Brien and Yancey, along with Mallard committing, Purdue lured defensive back Roman Combs (West Chester, Ohio), defensive lineman Wesley Grover (Alabaster, Alabama), Owen Roberts (Elmhurst, Illinois) and Izayveon Moore (Indianapolis) this week to bring Purdue's 2027 class to 11 commitments.

Purdue had prior commitments from quarterback Jackie Ryder (Winnetka, Illinois), running back Amos Bradford (Hollywood, Florida), linebacker Ethan Reyna (Merrillville) and cornerback Gianni Porfilio (Huntington Beach, California).
